What is Reducer Socket 50x32mm DADEX PPRc ?
The Dadex Polydex PPRc Reducer Socket (50x32mm, PN25) is a high-performance thermoplastic fitting used to connect a larger pipe (50mm) to a smaller pipe (32mm). Specifically designed for high-pressure and high-temperature environments, it is a staple in modern plumbing and HVAC systems.
1. Description & Key Features
The “Reducer Socket” (also known as a reducing coupler) is a fusion-welded fitting. Unlike mechanical fittings that use threads or gaskets, this socket becomes an inseparable part of the pipe system once welded.
-
Material: Polypropylene Random Copolymer (PPRc) Type 3.
-
Pressure Rating: PN25 (Pressure Nominal 25), meaning it is rated for a working pressure of up to 25 bar (approx.1 362 psi) at 20°C.
-
Appearance: Typically Green (Dadex Polydex signature color).
-
Standards: Manufactured in accordance with DIN 16962 (fittings) and DIN 8077-8078 (pipes).
2. Technical Specifications
| Feature | Details |
| Sizes | 50mm (Inlet) x 32mm (Outlet) |
| Pressure Class | PN25 (High Pressure) |
| Max Temperature | Up to 95°C (short-term) / 70°C (long-term service) |
| Jointing Method | Socket Fusion (Heat Welding) |
| Chemical Resistance | High resistance to acids, alkalis, and salts |
| Thermal Conductivity | Low ($0.24 \text{ W/mK}$), minimizing heat loss |
3. Usage & Applications
This specific 50x32mm reducer is commonly used in transitions between main supply lines and branch lines:
-
Hot & Cold Water Supply: Ideal for residential, commercial, and hospital potable water networks where hygiene and heat resistance are critical.
-
HVAC Systems: Used in chilled water lines for central air conditioning and heating system distribution.
-
Industrial Piping: Transport of compressed air and aggressive fluids (due to its chemical inertness).
-
Seismic Areas: PPRc is flexible enough to withstand structural vibrations better than rigid metal pipes.
4. Installation Guide (Socket Fusion)
To ensure the PN25 pressure rating is maintained, the fusion must be done correctly:
-
Preparation: Cut the 50mm and 32mm pipes squarely using a PPRc cutter.6 Clean the pipe ends and the inside of the reducer socket with alcohol to remove grease or dust.
-
Heating: Use a PPRc welding machine with 50mm and 32mm dies set to 260°C.
-
Insert the 50mm pipe and the 50mm side of the socket into the heater.
-
Hold for approximately 18–24 seconds (for 50mm) and 8–10 seconds (for 32mm).
-
-
Joining: Remove from the heater and immediately push the pipe into the socket without twisting.
-
Cooling: Hold the joint steady for about 30 seconds. Do not put the joint under pressure for at least 15–30 minutes until it has reached ambient temperature.
5. Advantages over Metal Fittings
-
Corrosion-Free: Unlike galvanized or copper pipes, PPRc will never rust or pit.
-
Smooth Interior: The low surface roughness prevents lime scale buildup, maintaining a constant flow rate over decades.
-
Hygienic: It does not change the smell or taste of water and is certified food-grade.
-
Noise Reduction: The material dampens the sound of water flow and “water hammer” effects.
