What is PPR Ball Valve 50mm EG PPRc ?
The PPR Ball Valve 50mm EG PPRc PN 25 delivers high-capacity flow control for large-diameter piping systems. It withstands extreme pressure and temperature demands, making it a standard choice for main water lines and central HVAC systems.
The “EG” in the name typically refers to the Electro-Galvanized finish on the internal metal parts (like the ball or stem) or the handle, providing superior rust protection.
1. Description and Usage
This 50mm (approx. 2-inch) valve uses a quarter-turn spherical disc (ball) to start or stop the flow of water.
-
HVAC Systems: Commonly used as an isolation valve for chilled water or hot water manifolds in central air conditioning and heating systems.
-
Water Supply: Ideal for main distribution lines in residential apartments, commercial malls, and industrial plants.
-
Performance: The PN 25 rating makes it one of the strongest PPR valves available, capable of handling high-pressure surges and constant high-temperature cycles without warping or leaking.
2. Technical Specifications
The performance of a PN 25 valve is highly dependent on the operating temperature.
| Feature | Specification |
| Diameter | 50mm (Standard Socket Weld) |
| Material | Polypropylene Random Copolymer (Type 3) |
| Pressure Rating | PN 25 (25 Bar / 362 PSI @ 20°C) |
| Max Temperature | 95°C (Short-term peak); 70°C (Continuous service) |
| Internal Parts | Brass (often Electro-Galvanized) or Stainless Steel |
| Seals | PTFE (Teflon) for heat resistance and smooth rotation |
| Standards | DIN 8077/8078, ISO 15874, EN ISO 16135 |
3. Installation Guide
Installation for a 50mm valve requires precise handling due to the larger surface area being welded.
-
Preparation: Cut the 50mm PPR pipe squarely using a heavy-duty pipe cutter.6 Clean both the pipe end and the valve socket with alcohol to remove any grease.
-
Heating: Use a professional PPR Welding Machine with 50mm dies. Heat both the valve and the pipe simultaneously.
-
Tip: For 50mm diameter, the heating time is typically 18–24 seconds (check your machine’s specific chart).
-
-
Joining: Push the pipe into the valve socket without twisting. Hold it firmly for at least 30–40 seconds to allow the plastic to bond.
- Orientation: Install with the handle facing upward or sideways to prevent sediment from settling in the valve stem.
4. Maintenance and Best Practices
-
Avoid Throttling: Ball valves are designed to be fully open or fully closed.7 Using them in a partially open position to “throttle” flow can damage the internal PTFE seals over time.
-
Thermal Expansion: In HVAC hot water lines, ensure there are expansion loops near the valve so the physical stress of the expanding pipe doesn’t crack the valve body.
-
Operation: To keep the valve from “seizing” due to mineral buildup (scaling), turn it fully off and on at least once every six months.
