What is Male Socket 40×1″ RAKtherm PPRc ?
PPR Male Adapter, Transition Male Socket, or Transition Piece Round-Male) is a specialized fitting from RAKtherm’s PPR piping system. It transitions from a 40mm OD PPR pipe (via socket fusion) to a 1″ male threaded connection (typically BSP).
Description
RAKtherm, manufactured in Ras Al Khaimah (UAE) by Gulf Plastic and Converting Industries, produces high-quality PPRc (Polypropylene Random Copolymer) fittings. This fitting has:
- One socket end for heat fusion welding to 40mm PPR pipe.
- One 1″ male threaded end (often with a reinforced brass insert in transition fittings for durability and better sealing against metal components).
It is green or white, matching RAKtherm pipes, and designed for reliable, leak-proof connections in pressurized systems. The PN25 rating provides a safety margin for hot water and HVAC applications.
Specifications
- Material: PP-R (Type 3), with brass insert in the threaded portion for strength.
- Pressure Rating: PN25 (SDR 5 / S 2 series for high-pressure hot water).
- Size: 40mm (PPR socket) × 1″ Male thread.
- Standards: ISO 15874, DIN 8077/8078; compliant with potable water certifications.
- Temperature Range: Continuous operation up to 70–95°C (short-term peaks to 100°C); suitable for hot/cold water.
- Key Features: Corrosion-resistant, scale-resistant, low thermal conductivity, smooth bore for optimal flow, long service life (>50 years), non-toxic.
Pressure derating applies at higher temperatures (per RAKtherm tables for PN25 pipes/fittings). Always refer to the official catalogue for exact pressure-temperature curves.
Similar transition fittings (e.g., Male Unions) are available in sizes like 32mm x 1″, 40mm x 1¼”, etc.
Usage / Applications
- Hot & Cold Water Supply: Plumbing in residential, commercial, and high-rise buildings.
- HVAC Systems: Connections for chilled/hot water lines, boilers, pumps, valves, fan coils, or heat exchangers.
- Transition Points: Linking PPR pipe networks to threaded metal valves, meters, tanks, pumps, or appliances.
- Other uses: Solar heating, compressed air, or chemical lines (verify compatibility).
It excels where a welded PPR system needs a demountable or hybrid interface with metal components.
Installation
RAKtherm uses socket fusion welding for the PPR end (permanent, homogeneous joint).
Steps:
- Cut the 40mm PPR pipe squarely with a pipe cutter; deburr and clean.
- Mark insertion depth on the pipe.
- Use a RAKtherm welding machine set to ~260°C. Heat the pipe end and fitting socket simultaneously (heating time for 40mm is typically 12–18 seconds, per welding tables).
- Join quickly and hold aligned for a few seconds. Allow full cooling (several minutes) before testing.
- For the threaded end: Wrap PTFE (Teflon) tape or use approved sealant. Screw into the female threaded counterpart (hand-tight + 1–2 turns; avoid over-tightening).
General Guidelines (from RAKtherm manual):
- Follow linear expansion compensation (use supports, clips, or expansion loops).
- Pressure test the system (typically 1.5× working pressure).
- Use genuine RAKtherm tools and fittings for best results and warranty.
Tools: Socket fusion welder with 40mm heads, pipe cutter, deburring tool, Teflon tape.
