What is End Cap 50mm DADEX PPRc ?
The End Cap 50mm DADEX PPRc PN 25 is a fitting in the Dadex Polydex (or similar PPR-C) piping system line, commonly used in Pakistan and regions where Dadex (Eternit Limited) products are popular. Dadex Polydex is a PPR (Polypropylene Random Copolymer) system, with pipes typically rated PN20 (standard for hot/cold water), but certain fittings or higher-pressure variants (like some socket couplings listed as PN25) are available for applications requiring enhanced pressure handling.
Description
- Type: PPR End Cap (also called blind cap, end plug, or blanking cap in some contexts).
- Purpose: It seals or terminates the open end of a 50mm diameter PPR pipe or fitting, creating a leak-proof closure to end a run of pipe, cap off unused branches, or temporarily seal during testing/maintenance.
- Material: Polypropylene Random Copolymer (PPR-C or PPRc), green color (standard for Dadex Polydex), food-grade, antimicrobial options available in some variants.
- Brand Specifics: Dadex Polydex fittings are often imported from Ekoplastik (Wavin group), marked “EK” on fittings, conforming to DIN 16962 standards for fittings (while pipes follow DIN 8077/8078).
- Pressure Class: PN25 (indicating nominal pressure of 25 bar at 20°C; derates at higher temperatures, e.g., suitable for ~20-25 bar cold, lower for hot water/HVAC per standard PPR guidelines). Note: Dadex Polydex is primarily PN20 system-wide, but PN25 fittings (like some couplings) exist for higher-demand uses; the end cap in PN25 is compatible with PN20/PN25 pipes in matching sizes.
Specification
- Nominal Size: 50mm (outer diameter compatibility for 50mm PPR pipe).
- Connection Type: Socket fusion (butt-weld/socket weld) – one side is a female socket that heat-fuses to the male pipe end.
- Pressure Rating: PN25 (2.5 MPa / 25 bar nominal at 20°C).
- Temperature Range: Typically 0°C to 95°C (suitable for cold water, hot water up to ~70-90°C continuous, short-term peaks higher; derate pressure for hot fluids).
- Standards: Conforms to DIN 8077/8078 (pipes), DIN 16962 (fittings); potable water approved, corrosion/abrasion resistant, low thermal/electrical conductivity.
- Advantages: Frost-resistant, noise-free flow, energy-efficient (low heat loss), environmentally friendly, long service life (50+ years), chemical resistant (for water/media).
- Available Sizes in System: 20mm to 110mm (50mm is standard).
- Usage Suitability: Hot and cold potable water supply/distribution, HVAC (chilled/hot water lines in central air-conditioning, compressed air distribution), industrial/household plumbing, high-rise buildings, hospitals, etc.
Installation
Dadex PPR systems use heat fusion welding (socket fusion) for permanent, leak-proof joints:
- Tools Needed: PPR welding machine (with 50mm dies), pipe cutter, chamfering tool, marker, cleaning cloth/alcohol.
- Steps:
- Cut the 50mm pipe squarely and cleanly.
- Chamfer/bevel the pipe end slightly for easy insertion.
- Clean both pipe end and end cap socket thoroughly (remove dust/grease).
- Mark insertion depth on pipe (per fitting specs, usually ~half the socket depth).
- Heat the pipe end and cap socket simultaneously on the welding machine (temperature ~260-270°C for PPR, heating time ~10-15 seconds for 50mm size – follow machine table).
- Quickly insert pipe into cap socket with firm pressure (no twisting), hold for ~10-20 seconds to cool/fuse.
- Allow full cooling (a few minutes) before pressurizing.
- Tips: Use only compatible Dadex/Ekoplastik fittings and pipes. Avoid over/under-heating to prevent weak joints. For HVAC/chilled water, ensure system supports low temperatures without cracking.
Usage
- Primarily to permanently or temporarily seal pipe ends in hot/cold water plumbing or HVAC systems.
- In hot/cold water supply: Caps branches not in use or ends of distribution lines.
- In HVAC: Terminates chilled water or hot water circuits, suitable for central AC systems due to corrosion resistance and thermal properties.
- Not for threaded applications (unless hybrid threaded cap variant); it’s weld-on.
- Compatible with Dadex Polydex pipes (PN20 standard, or higher if matched).
