What is Cross Bend 20mm EG PPRc ?
The Cross Bend 20mm EG PPRc PN 25 is a specialized high-pressure plumbing fitting used primarily to allow one pipeline to cross over another without increasing the depth of the installation. In many regions, the “EG” designation often refers to Euro-Green or a similar high-standard grade of Polypropylene Random Copolymer (PPRc).
1. Description and Purpose
A Cross Bend (also known as a Bridge Bend or Crossover) is an offset fitting. In a typical PPRc installation—where pipes are heat-fused and rigid—you cannot simply “bend” one pipe over another when their paths intersect.
-
The “Cross” Factor: It provides a pre-molded “bridge” so that a vertical pipe can pass over a horizontal pipe (or vice versa) while keeping both lines flush against the wall or within a narrow trench.
-
EG (Euro-Green): This indicates the material grade and color, following European standards for high-density, food-grade polypropylene.
2. Technical Specifications
The PN 25 rating is the most critical part of this specification, as it indicates a much higher pressure tolerance than standard domestic fittings (usually PN 16 or PN 20).
| Feature | Specification |
| Material | Polypropylene Random Copolymer (PPRc) |
| Diameter | 20mm (Standard for branch lines) |
| Pressure Rating | PN 25 (Capable of withstanding 25 Bar or approx. 362 PSI) |
| Standard | DIN 8077 / 8078 (German Industrial Standards) |
| Temperature | Suitable for -20°C to +95°C |
| Joint Type | Socket Fusion (Heat Welding) |
3. Usage & Applications
Due to its high PN 25 rating, this fitting is not just for basic home plumbing; it is designed for demanding environments:
-
HVAC Systems: Used in chilled water lines and boiler loops where pressure surges and temperature fluctuations are common.
-
Hot & Cold Water Supply: Ideal for high-rise buildings where the static water pressure is high.
-
Industrial Fluids: Used in compressed air systems or chemical transport due to its corrosion resistance.
4. Installation Steps
PPRc fittings are joined through Socket Fusion, which creates a homogenous plastic bond that is stronger than the pipe itself.
-
Preparation: Cut the 20mm pipe squarely and ensure the ends are clean and dry.
-
Heating: Use a PPRc welding machine with 20mm dies. Set the temperature to 260°C.
-
Fusing: Push both the pipe and the Cross Bend onto the heating dies simultaneously.
-
Heating Time: For 20mm, hold for approximately 5 seconds.
-
-
Joining: Pull them off the machine and push the pipe into the fitting socket immediately without twisting.
-
Cooling: Hold the joint steady for about 4-6 seconds to let the plastic set. Do not pressure test for at least 30 minutes.
5. Key Advantages
-
Space Saving: Eliminates the need for multiple 90-degree elbows to create a manual bridge, which saves space and reduces friction loss.
-
Leak-Proof: Fewer joints mean fewer potential leak points.
-
Chemical Resistance: It will not rust or scale, ensuring the water remains clean for decades.
