4. Installation Guidelines

Installation of 8″ fittings requires careful handling due to the weight and the amount of solvent cement needed.

1. Cutting & Chamfering: Ensure the 8″ pipe is cut perfectly square. Large pipes must be chamfered (beveled) at a 10–15° angle to prevent the pipe edge from scraping the cement off the fitting socket.

2. Dry Fit: Mark the “insertion depth” on the pipe to ensure it seats fully into the Wye.

3. Primer Application: Use a heavy-duty UPVC primer. Apply liberally to the inside of the Wye and the outside of the pipe. This “softens” the 8″ thick walls for a better bond.

4. Solvent Cementing: Use Heavy-Bodied UPVC Cement (specifically for large diameters). Apply a thick layer to the pipe and a medium layer to the Wye.

5. Assembly: This often requires two people. Push the pipe into the Wye with a slight twist. Because of the size, hold it firmly for at least 1–2 minutes to prevent “push-out” caused by the tight fit and air pressure.

6. Curing Time: For an 8″ joint, wait at least 24 hours before pressure testing.
