What is AGM upvc Socket 1/2″ ?
The AGM uPVC Socket 1/2″ Schedule 40 is a high-quality plumbing component manufactured by Arabian Gulf Manufacturers Ltd. (AGM), a leading industrial company based in Jeddah/Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.1 It is specifically designed to connect two pipes of the same diameter in a straight line.
Below is the detailed technical information, specifications, and installation guidance for this product.
Description & Material Properties
The socket (also known as a coupling) is made from Un plasticized Polyvinyl Chloride (uPVC). Because it is “un plasticized,” the material is rigid and strong, making it ideal for pressure applications.
-
Corrosion Resistance: It does not rust or corrode when exposed to salts, acids, or alkalis, making it perfect for the harsh soil and climatic conditions of the Gulf region.
-
Non-Toxic: Safe for potable (drinking) water as it does not leach chemicals or affect the taste/smell of water.
-
Smooth Bore: The internal walls are exceptionally smooth, reducing friction and preventing the buildup of scale or sediment.

Usage & Applications
While Schedule 40 is versatile, its primary uses include:
-
Water Supply: Residential and commercial cold-water distribution systems.
-
Sewerage & Drainage: Used in DWV (Drain, Waste, and Vent) systems for waste transport.
-
Irrigation: Widely used in Saudi agricultural projects due to its resistance to chemical fertilizers.
-
Industrial: Transport of non-hazardous chemicals and cooling water lines.
Installation Instructions
For a leak-proof joint, follow these steps:
-
Preparation: Cut the uPVC pipe square (90°) using a pipe cutter or fine-toothed saw.6 Remove all burrs (rough edges) from the inside and outside of the pipe end.
-
Cleaning: Wipe the outside of the pipe and the inside of the AGM socket with a clean, dry rag to remove dust, oil, or moisture.
-
Dry Fit: Insert the pipe into the socket to ensure a snug fit before applying any adhesive.
-
Priming: Apply a uPVC primer to the pipe end and the inside of the socket.7 This softens the plastic for a better chemical bond.
-
Solvent Cementing: Apply an even layer of uPVC Solvent Cement to the pipe end and a thin layer inside the socket.
-
Joining: Immediately push the pipe into the socket with a slight 1/4 turn to distribute the cement.10 Hold firmly for about 30 seconds.
-
Curing: Wipe off excess cement.11 Wait at least 15–30 minutes before handling and 24 hours before fully pressurizing the system.
