What is Reducer Socket 75x63mm RAKtherm PPRc ?
Reducer Socket 75x63mm RAKtherm PPRc PN 25 is a reducing socket fitting (also called a reducer coupling) used in polypropylene random copolymer (PPR/PPRc) piping systems. It connects a larger 75mm pipe to a smaller 63mm pipe in a straight run.
RAKtherm, a leading UAE manufacturer (based in Ras Al Khaimah), produces these high-quality PPR systems for hot & cold water, HVAC, and water supply applications.
Description
- Type: Concentric reducer socket (socket fusion type) with one end for 75mm pipe and the other for 63mm pipe.
- Material: PPR-C (Polypropylene Random Copolymer Type 3) — food-grade, hygienic, non-toxic, tasteless, and odorless. It is corrosion-resistant, chemically resistant, and environmentally friendly (recyclable).
- Color: Typically green (standard for many PPR-C systems).
- Purpose: Reduces pipe diameter smoothly while maintaining pressure integrity in pressurized hot and cold water systems. It creates a permanent, leak-proof fusion joint.
Key Specifications (RAKtherm PPRc PN 25)
- Art. No. (from RAKtherm catalog): R1-7563.
- Dimensions: 75mm (larger socket) x 63mm (smaller socket).
- Pressure Rating: PN 25 (25 bar at ~20°C). Derates at higher temperatures (suitable for continuous use up to ~70-95°C depending on pressure).
- Temperature Range: 0°C to 95°C (short-term peaks up to 100°C). Ideal for hot/cold potable water and HVAC/chilled water.
- Standards: Complies with DIN 8077/8078, ISO 15874, and other international norms for PPR systems.
- Packing: Typically 1 pc per unit (weight ~0.158 kg/piece).
- Advantages: Smooth inner surface (low friction, no scaling/build-up), high durability (50+ years service life), UV-resistant options available in composite variants, and excellent thermal/chemical resistance.
Usage / Applications
- Hot & Cold Water Supply: Residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
- HVAC: Chilled water, heating systems, radiators, and underfloor heating.
- Other: Potable water distribution, compressed air, irrigation, chemical transport (check compatibility), and swimming pool filtration.
It is widely used in the Middle East (including UAE imports to markets like Pakistan) due to its reliability in high-temperature and pressurized environments.
Installation (Socket Fusion Welding)
PPR fittings like this use heat fusion welding for a homogeneous, leak-free joint (stronger than the pipe itself). No threads or solvents are needed.
Tools Required:
- Socket fusion welding machine with appropriate dies (75mm and 63mm).
- Pipe cutter, chamfering tool, depth gauge, marking tool, and cleaning cloth.
Steps:
- Cut the pipe squarely and chamfer the edges. Clean and dry the surfaces.
- Mark the insertion depth on the pipe.
- Heat the fitting socket and pipe end simultaneously using the welding tool (follow RAKtherm time guidelines — typically seconds based on size; e.g., longer for larger diameters).
- Quickly insert the pipe fully into the socket without twisting. Hold firmly for a few seconds.
- Allow to cool naturally (do not disturb the joint).
- Use proper supports/clamps and account for thermal expansion (use loops or compensators).
- Pressure test the system after full cooling.
Important Notes:
- Follow the manufacturer’s welding time/ temperature table (available in RAKtherm catalog).
- Ensure alignment to avoid stress on the joint.
- For detailed guidelines, refer to RAKtherm’s installation manual (covers linear expansion, insulation, etc.).
Safety/Quality: Always use genuine RAKtherm products for warranty and performance. These are certified for potable water use.
