What is Reducer Socket 50x32mm RAKtherm PPRc ?
the RAKtherm PPRc Reducer Socket 50mm x 32mm PN 25, manufactured by Gulf Plastic and Converting Industries (Tahweel) in the UAE.
1. Description & Overview
The RAKtherm $50\text{mm} \times 32\text{mm}$ Reducer Socket (also known as a reducing bush or coupling) is an engineered thermoplastic fitting designed to seamlessly transition a piping run from a larger diameter ($50\text{mm}$) to a smaller diameter ($32\text{mm}$).

3. Key Usage & Applications
The $50\text{mm} \times 32\text{mm}$ step-down sizing is highly common in balanced fluid distribution networks, serving as a critical point for maintaining system pressure.
-
HVAC Sub-Manifolds & Branching: Stepping down from a $50\text{mm}$ main floor distribution loop or header to $32\text{mm}$ branch lines feeding individual Fan Coil Units (FCUs) or Air Handling Units (AHUs).
-
Chilled Water Circuits: Ideal for commercial cooling networks because the PN 25 wall thickness provides excellent insulation against condensation while managing high-velocity chilled fluid.
-
Hot Water Plumbing Risers: Used in centralized boiler setups to transition from primary risers to secondary horizontal distribution lines on individual floors.
-
Pressure Management: Strategically reducing pipe diameter to increase local velocity and maintain balanced hydraulic pressure across complex plumbing zones.
4. Installation & Fusion Guidelines
To achieve the permanent chemical bond required for a PN 25 system, standard socket fusion welding must be followed precisely.
1: Equipment Selection
-
Equip your welding machine with the correct $50\text{mm}$ and $32\text{mm}$ heating Teflon dies.
-
Pre-heat the matrix welder to $260^\circ\text{C} – 270^\circ\text{C}$ and wait for the indicator light to signal temperature stabilization.
2: Preparation
-
Cut the $50\text{mm}$ and $32\text{mm}$ pipes square using professional pipe cutters.
-
Chamfer and deburr the pipe edges. If using aluminum-layered (Stabi) or glass-fiber reinforced pipes, use a peeling tool to shave off the outer layer to expose the raw PPRc material.
-
Clean the inside of the reducer socket and the outside of the pipes with isopropyl alcohol.
3: Heating Sequence (Dual-Sized Parameters)
Because you are working with two different pipe sizes, note the distinct heating parameters for each side during the assembly process:
| Pipe Size | Heating Time | Insertion Depth | Structural Joint Holding Time | Total Cooling Time |
| $50\text{mm}$ Side | $18\text{ seconds}$ | $23.5\text{ mm}$ | $6\text{ seconds}$ | $4\text{ minutes}$ |
| $32\text{mm}$ Side | $8\text{ seconds}$ | $18.0\text{ mm}$ | $4\text{ seconds}$ | $4\text{ minutes}$ |
Step 4: Joint Assembly
-
Push the pipe and the respective side of the reducer socket into the heating tools simultaneously without twisting.
-
Once the heating time is reached, smoothly pull them out and push the pipe into the socket until the depth mark is reached.
-
Crucial: Hold the joint completely still for the specified holding time to prevent the pipe from backing out of the socket while the plastic is molten. Allow the assembly to cool naturally before pressure testing.
