What is End Cap 90mm RAKtherm PPRc ?
End Cap 90mm RAKtherm PPRc (PN 25) is a socket fusion fitting used to permanently seal the end of a 90mm outer diameter PPR (Polypropylene Random Copolymer) pipe.
It is part of RAKtherm’s comprehensive PPR piping system, manufactured in the UAE (Ras Al Khaimah) by Gulf Plastic and Converting Industries (Tahweel™ / RAKtherm). These systems are designed for pressurized hot and cold water distribution, HVAC, and water supply applications in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
Description
- Material: High-quality PP-R (Polypropylene Random Copolymer, Type 3), virgin material for durability, corrosion resistance, and hygiene. It is inert and does not affect potable water quality.
- Type: Socket (female) end cap for fusion welding to the pipe end. It creates a homogeneous, leak-proof monolithic joint.
- Color: Typically green (standard for RAKtherm PPR).
- Purpose: Closes pipe ends (temporary during installation/pressure testing or permanent). Prevents leaks, contamination, and protects the system.
- Art. No.: Likely C-90 (based on RAKtherm catalog patterns for end caps).
Key Specifications (PN 25 Series)
- Nominal Size: 90 mm (matches pipe outer diameter).
- Pressure Rating: PN 25 (suitable for higher pressure/temperature applications; max continuous working pressure ~25 bar at 20°C, derated for higher temperatures).
- Standards: Complies with DIN 8077/8078, ISO 15874, and other relevant norms (DVGW, etc.). RAKtherm products meet quality certifications for potable water and pressure systems.
- Temperature Range: Continuous service 0–95°C (peak up to 110°C short-term). Ideal for hot/cold water and HVAC.
- Dimensions/Weight (approximate from catalog): For C-90 — 90 mm, packing often 1 pc, weight ~0.281 kg/piece.
- Compatibility: Designed for RAKtherm PN 25 pipes (e.g., SDR 5 or equivalent series for 90 mm pipe, wall thickness around 15–18.1 mm depending on exact series).
- Service Life: 50+ years under normal conditions.
Note: Always match the PN rating, SDR series, and diameter exactly with your pipe for proper fusion and pressure integrity.
Usage
- Applications: Hot & cold potable water supply, HVAC chilled/hot water lines, underfloor heating, industrial fluid transport (non-aggressive), and general pressurized piping. Suitable for indoor/outdoor (with UV protection if needed) installations.
- Common in risers, branches, or dead-end lines where termination is needed.
- Excellent chemical resistance, low thermal conductivity, and no scaling/corrosion compared to metal alternatives.
Installation (Socket Fusion Welding)
PPR end caps are installed using heat fusion welding (not threaded). This creates a strong, permanent bond.
Steps (general best practices; follow RAKtherm manual and tool instructions):
- Cut pipe squarely using a PPR pipe cutter for a clean 90° end. Deburr inside/outside.
- Clean the pipe end and inside of the cap socket (dry cloth; no dirt/grease).
- Mark insertion depth on the pipe.
- Heat with a socket fusion welder set to ~260°C (±5°C). Heat pipe end and cap socket simultaneously for the recommended time (for 90 mm, typically longer; consult tool chart, e.g., 20–40+ seconds depending on equipment).
- Join quickly: Remove from heater, push pipe straight into cap (no twisting) to full depth. Hold firmly during cooling (similar time to heating).
- Cool undisturbed before applying pressure or stress.
Tools Needed: RAKtherm-compatible welding machine with 90 mm sockets, pipe cutter, etc.
Tips/Warnings:
- Proper technique is critical — poor fusion causes leaks.
- Use only matching RAKtherm components for warranty.
- For exposed systems or high movement, consider supports/clamps and expansion compensation.
- Pressure test the system after installation.
