What is Elbow Female 25×1/2″ Brass RAKtherm PPRc ?
Elbow Female 25×1/2″ Brass (also called Transition Elbow Female) from RAKtherm PPRc (Polypropylene Random Copolymer) is a specialized 90° elbow fitting with a socket fusion PPR end (25 mm) on one side and a brass female threaded insert (1/2″ BSP/NPT) on the other.
It is manufactured by RAKtherm (Gulf Plastic and Converting Industries / Tahweel), a leading UAE-based producer of PPR piping systems in Ras Al Khaimah, imported from the UAE. It is rated PN 25 (suitable for high-pressure hot and cold water applications) and designed for reliable transitions between PPR pipes and metal threaded components.
Description
This is a transition fitting that allows a 90-degree change in direction while connecting PPR pipe (via heat fusion/socket welding) to a threaded brass connection. The body is made of high-quality green PPRc material, with an integrated brass female insert for strength and corrosion resistance. The brass insert is specially designed to handle higher tightening torque without damaging the plastic body.
It is part of RAKtherm’s comprehensive PPR system for pressurized hot and cold water delivery, HVAC, underfloor heating, and general plumbing.
Key Specifications (Typical for RAKtherm E6-251/2 or equivalent)
- Size: 25 mm (PPR socket) x 1/2″ (brass female thread).
- Pressure Rating: PN 25 (25 bar at 20°C; derates with temperature, e.g., suitable for ~10-15+ bar at 60-70°C depending on exact conditions and safety factors).
- Temperature Range: -20°C to +95°C (continuous up to 70°C, short-term peaks higher; excellent for hot/cold water).
- Material: PPR Type 3 (PP-R 80) body + lead-free brass insert. Complies with standards like DIN 8077/8078, DIN 16962, ISO 15874, and often NSF/BS 6920 for potable water.
- Color: Green (standard for RAKtherm hot/cold systems).
- Packing/Weight: Typically 10 pcs per pack; approx. 0.064 kg per piece.
- Features: Corrosion/chemical resistant, low thermal conductivity, smooth bore (reduces scaling/bacterial growth), long service life (>50 years under normal conditions).
Similar/related products exist in 20×1/2″, 25×3/4″, etc.
Usage
- Primary Purpose: Create a 90° turn and transition from PPR piping to threaded metal fittings (e.g., valves, faucets, pumps, boilers, radiators, or manifolds).
- Applications:
- Residential/commercial hot & cold potable water supply.
- HVAC, chilled water, and heating systems.
- Underfloor heating and radiant systems.
- Industrial fluid transport (non-aggressive chemicals).
It excels in leak-proof, hygienic systems with minimal maintenance.
Installation
- PPR Side (Socket Fusion): Use a RAKtherm-approved fusion welding machine (heating element ~260°C). Heat the 25 mm pipe end and fitting socket simultaneously for the recommended time (per tool/size chart), then join firmly and hold until cooled. A proper weld shows a uniform bead.
- Brass Threaded Side: Apply PTFE (Teflon) tape or approved sealant to the male thread counterpart. Screw into the female brass insert. Avoid over-tightening to prevent cracking the PPR body.
- General Guidelines:
- Follow RAKtherm installation manual for expansion compensation, supports, and pressure testing.
- Use compatible PPR pipes (e.g., PN 20 or PN 25 series).
- Install in accessible areas; ensure proper alignment to avoid stress.
- Pressure test the system after installation.
