Description
AGM cpvc Socket 1″
AGM Cpvc for hot water, imported from Saudi Arab. Available from 1/2″ to 2″
What is AGM cpvc Socket 1″ ?
AGM CPVC Socket 1″ is a Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) pipe fitting manufactured by Arabian Gulf Manufacturers Ltd.1 (AGM), a company based in Saudi Arabia (KSA). It is primarily used to join two pieces of 1-inch CPVC pipe in non-threaded, permanent installations.
Key Information and Specifications
- Material: CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride).2 This material is suitable for both hot and cold water applications.
- Manufacturer: AGM (Arabian Gulf Manufacturers Ltd.), a well-known producer of plastic piping systems in the MENA region.
- Size: 1 inch (Nominal Size). It has a slip-by-slip end type, meaning both ends are sockets designed to receive a pipe.
- Application: Used for hot and cold water distribution systems in residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing. CPVC’s ability to handle high temperatures makes it superior to standard PVC for hot water lines.
- Maximum Operating Temperature: Typically up to 7$200^\circ$ F (8$93^\circ$ C) for CPVC fittings.
- ASTM F 439, ASTM D1784 (Cell Class 12454), and may comply with SASO (Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization).
- Joint Type: Solvent Weld (S/J or Solvent Cement Joint).
Installation and Usage
The installation of an AGM CPVC Socket 1″ uses the solvent cement welding method, which creates a strong, molecularly fused joint.11
- Cut the Pipe: Cut the CPVC pipe square (at a 12$90^\circ$ angle) to the desired length.13
- Deburr and Chamfer: Remove any burrs from the inside and outside of the pipe end and lightly chamfer (bevel) the outer edge.14 This prevents scraping the fitting’s socket when inserted and ensures a proper fit.
- Dry Fit: Check the fit of the pipe into the socket.15 The pipe should insert easily but begin to feel resistance about one-third to two-thirds of the way into the socket depth.16 If it slides all the way in without resistance, the fitting or pipe is likely out of tolerance and should not be used.
- The primer softens the plastic surface, prepping it for the cement.
- Apply Solvent Cement: Apply a heavy, even coat of CPVC solvent cement (typically orange or yellow) to the outside of the pipe end and a thin coat to the inside of the socket.
- Assemble the Joint: Immediately insert the pipe fully into the socket, rotating the pipe $1/4$ to 21$1/2$ turn as you push it in to distribute the cement evenly.
- Hold: Hold the joint firmly for about 10-15 seconds to prevent the pipe from pushing back out.
- Cure: Wipe off any excess cement bead that forms around the joint.24 Allow the joint to set and cure according to the solvent cement manufacturer’s instructions before pressure testing the system.
Usage
The AGM CPVC Socket 1″ is used to permanently connect straight sections of 1-inch CPVC pipe in various plumbing applications:
- Water Supply Lines: Primarily used for the conveyance of potable hot and cold water. It is a non-metallic fitting, making it immune to rust, scale, and pitting from hard water or corrosive soil conditions.
