What is Reducing Tee 50x25mm EG PPRc ?
A Reducing Tee 50x25mm EG PPRc PN25 is a high-pressure thermoplastic fitting used to create a branch in a piping system where the main line is 50mm and the branch line is reduced to 25mm.
The “EG” typically refers to the brand (e.g., Euro Gulf or similar high-standard Middle Eastern manufacturers), and PN25 signifies its high-pressure rating, making it suitable for demanding HVAC and hot water applications.
1. General Description
-
Material: Polypropylene Random Copolymer (PPRc) Type 3.2 This material is chosen for its high resistance to chemical corrosion and its ability to handle high temperatures without losing structural integrity.
-
Configuration: It is an Unequal Tee. The two main “run” ends are 50mm, while the perpendicular “branch” outlet is 25mm.
-
Pressure Rating (PN25): Rated for a nominal pressure of 25 bar (approx.4 362 PSI) at a reference temperature of 20°C.
2. Technical Specifications
PPRc fittings are generally manufactured according to DIN 8077/8078 or ISO 15874 standards.
| Feature | Specification |
| Size | 50mm (Main) x 25mm (Branch) x 50mm (Main) |
| Pressure Class | PN 25 (SDR 5) |
| Temp. Range | -20°C to +95°C (Ideal for hot water/heating) |
| Connection Type | Socket Fusion (Heat Welding) |
| Color | Usually Green (standard) or White/Grey depending on the brand |
| Service Life | 50+ years under recommended operating conditions |
3. Usage & Applications
-
HVAC Systems: Used in Chilled Water Systems and Hydronic Heating.7 The PN25 rating is excellent for high-rise buildings where static pressure is high.
-
Water Supply: Ideal for Potable Hot and Cold Water distribution.9 It is often used to branch off a main floor riser (50mm) to individual fixture lines (25mm).
-
Industrial: Transporting compressed air or aggressive fluids that would otherwise corrode metallic pipes.
4. Installation (Heat Fusion Process)
PPRc fittings do not use glue or threads.
-
Preparation: Cut the 50mm and 25mm pipes square. Clean the pipe ends and the inside of the tee with a dry cloth to remove dust or moisture.
-
Heating: Set the welding machine to 260°C (500°F).11 Insert the 50mm pipe and the 50mm side of the tee into the heating dies simultaneously.
-
Heating Time: For a 50mm pipe, heat for approximately 18–20 seconds. For the 25mm branch, heat for about 7 seconds.
-
Joining: Remove from the dies and immediately push the pipe into the fitting without twisting.
-
Cooling: Hold the joint steady for 30 seconds. Allow it to cool completely (about 5–10 minutes) before applying pressure.
5. Why Choose PN25 for HVAC?
-
Thermal Expansion: PN25 (SDR 5) has thicker walls than PN16 or PN20, providing better resistance to the thermal stresses caused by constant cycling between hot and cold in HVAC systems.
-
Leak-Proof: Because the fusion process creates a homogenous bond (the pipe and fitting become one single piece of plastic), the risk of leaks at the joints is virtually zero if welded correctly.12
