What is Elbow 50mm RAKtherm PPRc ?
RAKtherm Elbow 50mm PPRc PN25 – UAE Imported is a full PPR 90-degree bend for 50mm main lines. Not the brass threaded one, this is Equal Elbow L50 – both ends are PPR socket for fusion welding.
This is what is used in main risers, HVAC header lines, and commercial hot/cold water distribution in plazas and bungalows in Pakistan.
1. Description
- Product Name: Elbow 90° 50mm RAKtherm PPRc
- Type: Equal Elbow, 90-degree
- Brand / Origin: RAKtherm, Made in UAE – Ras Al Khaimah / Dubai. Imported as food-grade PPRc. Green color.
- System: Part of RAKtherm PN25 Piping System for hot & cold water and HVAC water supply solution.
- Function: To change pipeline direction by 90° where corner or turn is required. Joining is made by fusion welding, no threads, no glue.
It’s available in both 90° and 45° versions. 50mm size is commonly used for main line to floor distribution, pump rooms, and 1-1/2″ equivalent line.
2. Specification
Material & Standards:
- Material: Polypropylene Random Copolymer (PPRc) – 3rd generation, from petroleum polypropylene random co-polymer, non-toxic, hygienic, fully acid and alkali resistant
- Compliance: DIN 8077, DIN 8078 Polypropylene pipe dimensions, DIN 8076 for joint testing
- Fittings Rating: PN-25 (All plastic fittings are PN-25)
Dimensions & Pressure:
- Size: 50mm (matches 50mm PPR pipe)
- PN25 Pipe Wall for 50mm: 50 x 8.3 mm wall thickness
- Elbow dimensions (catalog standard for 50mm Equal Elbow): D 49.5mm socket, Outer D ∼67.0mm, Length ∼50.0mm, fusion depth ∼23.5mm. Exact RAKtherm mold may vary +/- 1mm.
- Pressure Rating: Typically rated for PN20 or PN25, allowing it to handle up to 20 or 25 bar respectively
- For PN25 system: 25 bar nominal at 20°C cold water, 10 bar at 65°C hot water continuous, test pressure 65 bar, burst 103 bar per generic PN25 catalog data.
Thermal & Chemical:
- Temperature Resistance: Designed to withstand up to 70°C continuous, up to 95°C short term for hot water. PN25 rating is suitable for hot water up to roughly 95°C for short periods and lower continuous temperatures per manufacturer charts
- Chemical Resistance: Resistant to wide range of chemicals
- Lifespan: Long service life, often exceeding 50 years under normal operating conditions, 50 years at 20°C and 20 bar.
- Hygiene: Non-toxic, safe for potable water
- Flow: Low-friction, 20% higher flow than metal due to smooth bore.
Sizes Available in same family: 20mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 63mm, 75mm, 90mm, 110mm
3. Usage / Application
This fitting is ideal for:
- Residential water supply systems
- Industrial piping systems
- Heating and cooling systems / HVAC chilled water lines
- Main risers in bungalows, plazas, projects, any kind of construction
- Boiler, chiller, and solar water heater connections in 50mm header
- Cold water storage tank to building distribution
Benefits: Provides reliable connections that minimize risk of leaks, lightweight and easy to handle compared to metal
4. Installation and Usage Method
Installation method is thermofusion (heat welding). No threading.
Tools needed: RAKtherm fusion machine 75-110mm capacity, 50mm heater bush, pipe cutter for 50mm, marker, level.
Procedure for 50mm:
- Cut: Cut pipe at 90° with sharp cutter. Clean inside and outside. Mark welding depth: 23.5mm for 50mm.
- Heat: Set machine to 260°C. For 50mm PN25, heating time 20-25 seconds, per RAKtherm chart (20mm is 5 sec, 50mm is longer).
- Weld: Simultaneously push pipe and elbow onto hot bush and socket. Do not rotate. After heating time, quickly remove and push pipe into elbow to marked depth. Hold straight for 30 seconds.
- Cooling: Do not stress joint for 2-3 minutes. Full pressure after 1 hour.
- Alignment: Proper surface preparation and alignment are essential for achieving a strong bond
Important for HVAC / Hot Water:
- Use STABI aluminum-foiled PN25 pipe for 50mm exposed lines and HVAC – it reduces thermal expansion to near metal level.
- Provide expansion loops or offsets every 5-6 meters for 50mm hot lines (PPR expands ∼0.15mm/m/°C).
- Clamp with sliding clamps, not fixed tight clamps.
- Do not install below 5°C ambient.
- Pressure test whole system at 12-15 bar for 1 hour before concealment.
